This presentation provides an overview of some of the contemporary issues threatening democracy. Misinformation and disinformation are defined, and case studies are presented to illustrate key learning objectives. The talk closes with a future outlook and suggests ways in which legislators may take steps to protect democracy and the electoral proces

Sarah Mojarad is a Visiting Fellow at USC Annenberg's Center on Communication Leadership & Policy (CCLP). She has expertise in social media, science communication, misinformation, and disinformation. She regularly conducts workshops on misinformation and disinformation for USC’s Election Cybersecurity Initiative.

Before her CCLP role, she held faculty appointments at USC Viterbi School of Engineering and Keck School of Medicine. She was also a lecturer at the California Institute of Technology prior to joining USC.
