Jeffrey Cole
From Believing Almost Everything to Believing Almost Nothing: The Decline of Users Faith in the Credibility of the On-Line World
Director, Center for the Digital Future
University of Southern California
Unlike Artificial Intelligence which has started with citizen’s overwhelming fear (loss of jobs, inability to distinguish truth from fakes and even the end of humankind), the Internet began with hope and optimism that everyone would be connected and get access to better information and services that ever before possible. Using twenty-four years of data and insight from the thirty-six counties that form the World Internet Project (WIP), Jeffrey Cole will share the ways concerns about security and privacy have grown steadily, especially in the past ten years. Those fears have consistently diminished users trust in the credibility of what they learn on-line and faith in the credibility of information, elections and the civic process.
